Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media in addition to a public speaking Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a site with video and blogs discussing the way women are represented in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, journalist and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency, a website dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in the world of pop culture, is operated by Sarkeesian. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Furthermore, she strives to bring awareness to cyber-bullying targeting females and other minorities of individuals. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's well-known and has given talks at TEDxWomen and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was interested in issues of gender identity and feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009 she developed her Feminist Frequency site. The woman with ambitions to create a web series examining gender representation in video games. However, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The attack did hinder her, instead it only strengthened her resolve to be a feminist media critic. For the many accomplishments she's made to women's rights, she's been the recipient of numerous awards.
